The reviews are in for "Child's Play," the newest installment in the Chucky-led horror franchise. However, it seems as though most critics of the murderous toy aren't very pleased with this newest iteration.

The film, which expands on the story that initially was told in the 1988 horror classic, is the first in the series to be completed without the direction of creator Don Mancini. Starring Aubrey Plaza and Mark Hamill as the voice of Chucky, let's take a dive into the reviewers' receptions:

The New York Times- Ben Kenigsberg

"This revamped Chucky has a sense of humor, of sorts...But while we may need to fear the creeping presence of Alexa, Siri, and self-driving cars, rogue artificial intelligence is easily explained - unlike, say, a possessed doll that frames a small boy for murder."

The Hollywood Reporter- Keith Uhlich

"The makeshift nature of Mancini's originals handily outshines this slick, corporate cash-grab."

AV Club- Charles Bramesco

"As an enchanted talisman housing a depraved mind, Chucky was born one-of-a-kind. As nothing more than a glitching machine, he lacks the sniggling spirit that made him special. He’s been mass-produced."

Los Angeles Times- Justin Chang

"Being an AI with faulty circuitry, Chucky 2.0 doesn't have the hilarious vulgarity or the single-minded murderous glee - the soul, if you will - that made Dourif's Chucky such an unnervingly human abomination."

Variety- Peter Debruge

"...Chucky seems less intimidating than before. Part of this can be blamed on the ugly new character design, although he's really hamstrung by the inevitable limits of an animatronic character's performance. While the eyes are the only feature that appear to be computer generated, the facial expressions can be confusing, relying on the score to cue us to what Chucky is 'thinking.'"

Forbes- Scott Mendelson

"Combined with decent production values and a polished palette, this 'Child's Play' remake is good enough and different enough from what came before to justify its inclusion among the 'traditional' Don Mancini movies. Chucky got lucky, because this 'Child's Play' remake is pretty good, and it'll make a fine double bill with your favorite 'Child's Play' sequel."

"Child's Play" is currently in theaters.
