'Dancing With The Stars' Contestant Nastia Liukin Engaged, Posts Photos Of Ring And Fiancé Matt Lombardi

Former “Dancing With the Stars” contestant Nastia Liukin got engaged to boyfriend Matt Lombardi on Monday. Liukin, 25, an Olympic medal winner, competed on the most recent season of the competitive ABC reality show with partner Derek Hough.

Liukin made the announcement via Twitter, along with the caption, “so this just happened…” Her fiancé, Lombardi, is seen standing with open arms in the photo alongside a close-up photo of her diamond ring.

Liukin is a Russian-American gymnast and a four-time all-around U.S. national champion. She competed in the 2005, 2007 and 2008 Olympics on the balance beam and uneven bars. She’s won nine World Championship medals, seven of them individual. Her fiancé is the founder of a sports team-coaching platform called VentureUp and a graduate of Boston College. Liukin lives in LA and Lombardi reguarly visits her from Boston.

Liukin and partner Hough were eliminated on May 12 from “Dancing With the Stars.” The pair made it to week nine, the semi-finals, during the 20th season and received positive scores throughout the show.

“As a gymnast, I was always so used to focusing on scores and placements and trying to be at the top,” Liukin told AfterBuzz TV on May 13. “[Partner] Derek Hough really just taught me to live in the moment and enjoy the journey and be myself, most importantly. I think that’s the biggest thing that I take from it is it’s OK to not be perfect. It’s OK to be emotional and be vulnerable.”
