‘Demon’s Souls’ Now Playable On PC Using PS3 Emulator RPCS3; Gameplay Videos Released
Sony’s first-ever Souls game that debuted as a PS3-exclusive title, “Demon’s Souls,” is now playable on PC. Thanks to Nekotekina’s work-in-progress PS3 emulator, the action role-playing game can run on PC sans a remaster version for the current generation platforms.
Just this Saturday, Nekotekina officially showed off what it’s like to play “Demon’s Souls” on PC through his emulator. The developer even uploaded two videos on YouTube (found below) showing how the PS3-exclusive game performs on PC. Unfortunately, the emulation of the game isn’t that stellar yet. It only appears “playable” on PC, but it is still far from properly functioning on the platform, according to GearNuke.
What Nekotekina did, however, is still a proof of concept on how far he and his team of developers have made it to emulating the PS3 game on PC. In a blog post, Nekotekina detailed the process of making “Demon’s Souls” playable on the open source PlayStation 3 emulator. The developer admitted in the post that the graphics were not very impressive at the initial stages of emulating the game. Improving it to what it is now involved tweaking some settings.
After three weeks of committed work on “Demon’s Souls,” Nekotekina was finally able to improve the overall performance of the game on the emulator. The end-result was a version that could run smooth 30FPS in many parts of the game. As a whole, the game performs at 10-30FPS on a fast CPU.
Despite the development the team who worked on the game did, there are still problems to take care of in the near future. For example, the game can randomly get stuck on loading screens. The sound becomes unstable after five to 10 minutes of playing it. The shadow of the player character is nowhere to be found, and there are minor graphical bugs here and there.
“Regardless, the fact that Demon’s Souls goes in-game and is playable to some extent is certainly a huge milestone for RPCS3. I would like to thank every developer who made this possible,” Nekotekina concluded his post.
