Derek Hough and his fiancée, Hayley Erbert, got into a "scary" car accident in the mountains two weeks before Christmas.
On Saturday, the couple revealed via Instagram that they experienced a frightening incident while they were traveling on a steep hill with an icy road and thick fog on Dec. 12.
They posted a video documenting the aftermath of the accident, including the damage to their car and their visit to the emergency room.
"On December 12, Derek and I got into a pretty scary car accident in the mountains. Our accident involved a steep hill, icy roads, a tree, and worst of all, the fear that we would slide off the mountain," Erbert wrote in the caption.
She continued, "Given the circumstances, we have so much to be grateful for. First, there were no other people involved. Second, the quick response from paramedics. And lastly, that we are both okay and that I only walked away a little banged up, a swollen face and four stitches above my eyebrow."
The video showed the moment the 28-year-old "So You Think You Can Dance" alum received stitches in her forehead in the hospital after the paramedics and firefighters rescued them. The couple also included clips of their damaged car, with the rear windscreen totally broken.
The 37-year-old "Dancing with the Stars" judge tried to cheer his fiancée up by buying her sweet treats, chips and frozen pizza.
"What do you do after you get into a car accident? Go to the emergency room, get stitches," Hough said in the video while panning the camera to Erbert, who was all stitched up and ready to take a rest in her pajamas.
"We treat ourselves to snacks," he added. "What a night."
Hough also shared in the comments section of the post that the "scariest part" of the accident was that Erbert "doesn't remember anything." He explained that she was "dazed" and "being cheerful saying we should keep going to dinner as blood ran down her face."
Following the accident, the couple said they realized now, more than ever, "how fragile life is and how important it is to love those around you."
The pair concluded the post by wishing their followers "a safe, healthy and happy holiday season."
Hough and Erbert's friends and followers took to the comments section to wish the couple a speedy recovery and express their relief that they were safe.
"Oh, my goodness. I am so sorry friends!!! That is so scary. I'm so glad you are safe," Kelli Erdmann wrote.
Fellow former "SYTYCD" contestant Makenzie Dustman said, "We love you guys so so much...seeing it all hurts my heart, but I'm so grateful the healing process is HAPPENING and that the worst is over...kindly, f--k Lake Arrowhead & [its cliff-like] neighborhood."
"Omg! Thank God you're both okay. Sending you love and a fast recovery. You'll be able to chew candy in no time," Cheryl Burke added.
It seemed that Hough and Erbert have fully recovered from the accident as she posted Sunday a series of photos of them in their pajamas kissing in front of a Christmas tree and posing next to their pets.
"Christmas kisses. Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas. Sending love to all!" Erbert wrote in the caption.
Hough proposed to longtime girlfriend Erbert in June after seven years of dating. He planned the surprise event along with Troy Williams of Simply Troy Lifestyle + Events, according to People.
"Derek surprised her and got her out of the house for the afternoon. He wanted their home transformed," Williams shared with the outlet. "They're an adventurous couple and have seen such big moments, but their home is their sanctuary and it's where they fell even more in love."
"After she said 'yes,' it was just everything — such a special, beautiful moment and just so them," he added.
