KEY POINTS

  • Earn Laurels and Medals to gain loot
  • Global class standing is determined by the number of Medals deposited by players
  • Make sure to always get Contender Cards before farming activities

This year’s Guardian Games has officially begun, and while it is yet to go full swing, “Destiny 2” players can already start grinding for medals and laurels to help propel their class to victory.

The event mainly focuses on earning and depositing points on the podium at the Tower. Of course, completing any activities will reward players with more loot. However, the mechanics are a bit convoluted, so here’s a short guide that’ll go over everything Guardians will need to do for the event.

Medals, Laurels and Contender Cards

Defeated enemies anywhere in the system will drop Laurels, which can be used to purchase Contender Cards from Eva Levante at the Tower. Completing activities and finishing Contender Cards will reward players with Medals.

Laurels are earned by defeating enemies. Medals are earned by completing Contender Cards and finishing activities.

Depositing Medals in the Tower’s podium will give players one random item while also boosting their class’ overall standing in the Guardian Games. The class with the highest standing by May 24 will receive a commemorative statue in the Tower once the next season begins.

Guardian Games Playlists

This year, players can join either the Training or Recreational playlists to make progress with their Guardian Games loot farming.

The Recreational Playlist features random Vanguard missions, including a few old Battlegrounds missions from Season of the Chosen. This is mostly designed for low-light players or those who want to breeze through activities as quickly as possible.

Meanwhile, the Training playlist features a 1,550-difficulty mission with a number of modifiers similar to a Nightfall strike. During the weekends, the Training playlist is replaced by the Competitive playlist, which will drop better rewards than usual.

Farming loot

Players will need to earn Laurels, finish Contender Cards and deposit Medals in the Tower to earn as much loot as possible. During weekends, players will supposedly be able to farm for the new SMG: The Title, alongside other exciting loot, though Bungie didn’t specify what this loot could be.

For those who want to maximize their loot farming and Contender Card completion, make sure to use abilities as much as possible in PvE, as they will cause normal red-bar enemies to drop Laurels as well.
