'Doctor Strange': Joaquin Phoenix Says Requirements Of Comic Book Films Goes Against His Instincts
Joaquin Phoenix has addressed “Doctor Strange” rumors, saying that he has never found comic book genre of movies “fulfilling.” He also said that he has had meetings in regard to starring in these films but “ultimately” could not relate to them.
“There were too many requirements that went against my instincts for character. I’ve been spoiled. I’ve never had to make those compromises. I’ve not met a director yet with one of those films where we go through the script, they say: 'You know what, …….., let’s focus on the character'," Times Out quoted Phoenix as saying.
The actor added that it is “best” if he does not sign comic book films. However, the actor loves watching these films. He particularly praised Chris Pine for playing Kirk in “Star Trek.”
The actor also said that he may not like to have an experience of being a part of such kind of films as most of the scripts that have come his way have “75 percent …description of some asteroid going through space.”
Phoenix was reportedly rumored to play Doctor Stephen Strange in Marvel’s “Doctor Strange.” The role is now being played by “Sherlock” star Benedict Cumberbatch.
The film tells the story of an arrogant surgeon whose career is destroyed. He gets a new lease of life when a sorcerer teaches him magic to protect the world from magic. The film also stars Oscar winner Tilda Swinton and “12 Year a Slave” actor Chiwetel Ejiofer. It has also been rumored that Mada Mikkelson and Rachel McAdams are in talks to join the cast.
