Doctors Fail To Catch Newborn When Mother Pushed Him Out During Delivery, Baby Dead
In an unfortunate incident, a newborn died from a head injury after doctors failed to catch the baby when his mother pushed him out during delivery. The incident took place in Gualeguaychu, Argentina, on Thursday.
Claudio Mondragon rushed his 37 weeks pregnant wife to a clinic near their home after she complained of severe stomach pain. During delivery, the doctors asked the woman to push but failed to catch the newborn. The boy was transferred to another hospital where he died.
Recalling the incident, Mondragon said, “My wife was in labor and was just about to have the baby and they asked her to push and she pushed so he would come out. He came out really fast and no-one grabbed him and he fell to the floor.”
"The midwife didn’t have time to catch him and the obstetrician didn’t react. The only thing they did was lift him up from the floor and put him in an incubator and take him to another hospital,” he added.
An autopsy confirmed that the newborn died from a head injury that was consistent with a fall. An investigation was ongoing. Meanwhile, the boy was buried by his parents over the weekend.
