The Dragons In ‘Game Of Thrones’ Are Bigger Than Ever In Season 7
“Game of Thrones” Season 7 is almost back. The penultimate season of the HBO series will be bigger than ever — no, seriously.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Daenerys Targaryen’s (Emilia Clarke) fleet of dragons have grown significantly. During an interview with the publication Matt Shankman, one of four “Game of Thrones” Season 7 directors, revealed their exact size. Their bodies aren’t the only big thing about them either.
“The dragons this year are the size of 747s,” Shankman told EW. “Drogon is the biggest of the bunch — his flame is 30-feet in diameter!”
The dragons may be the only “Game of Thrones” prop we have dimensions for, but they’re not the only big aspect of Season 7. In fact, star Iain Glen — who plays Jorah Mormont — told Radio Times the grand scale was to blame for filming delays. The actor said the “Game of Thrones” universe is growing with each season.
“I think the scale and size of the set pieces, the world that is being created it’s just getting more and more extraordinary and they feel they need that time to shoot seven hours as opposed to ten,” he said in the December 2016 interview.
In October 2016, photos showed Clarke filming scenes with Kit Harington, who plays Jon Snow. This was a big deal for “Game of Thrones” fans because Daenerys and Jon don’t know they’re related. It’s not clear what’ll happen when they meet, but one fan photo showed Clarke holding a green screen place holder that will clearly be a CGI dragon head when the episode airs.
“Game of Thrones” Season 7 premieres July 16 on HBO.
