Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall seems to be a fan of Colin Firth.
On Wednesday, Camilla, 74, visited Jane Austen's England residence to learn more about the beloved author's literary collection. During the royal outing, museum director Lizzie Dunford showed off the organization's "Jane Austen Undressed" exhibit devoted to the Regency period's undergarments.
The exhibit featured the iconic white shirt worn by Firth when he played Mr. Darcy in the 1995 BBC miniseries "Pride and Prejudice." His character memorably went for a dip in the pond before emerging in the soaking wet top.
"But he's not in it, that's a bit sad," Camilla jokingly said while looking at the garment, per footage uploaded on the Royal Family's YouTube channel.
Dunford added: "I know, that's sad, and it's not quite as damp as it was."
Prince Charles' wife then quipped that the team could "give it a good spray."
"It's a wonderful artifact, one of the reasons we wanted to show it was that 1995 production was so transformative for people loving 'Pride And Prejudice,'" the museum director explained Wednesday. "That scene, we all watched it, everyone, and this production brought so many people to Jane Austen, which is why it's quite a significant artifact."
Duchess Camilla also met the staff and was shown the early editions of Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" and "Emma" novels during the outing.
Dunford said she was delighted by the royal's visit as the future queen consort is a passionate advocate of literature and reading.
"It has been a privilege to share Jane Austen’s House and some of the outstanding treasures of our collection with Her Royal Highness, from Austen's writing table to the famous topaz crosses that inspired Mansfield Park," Dunford said of Camilla's visit via the museum's website. "It was a delight to show Her Royal Highness around the House as she is such an avid reader and supporter of literacy. Her Royal Highness was fascinated by Jane Austen's tiny writing table, the letters she wrote here and the first editions of her novels."
The museum director added, "It is wonderful to know that with the help of Her Royal Highness' The Duchess of Cornwall's Reading Room, we continue to reach new audiences and to share Jane's extraordinary life, works and legacy with the nation, and indeed the world."
In January 2021, Camilla launched a new initiative called The Duchess of Cornwall's Reading Room book club. She shared a list of books that she loves, which included Hilary Mantel's "The Mirror and The Light," Delia Owens' "Where The Crawdads Sing," William Boyd's "Restless" and Elif Shafak's "The Architect's Apprentice."
"To me, reading is a great adventure. I’ve loved it since I was very small and I’d love everybody else to enjoy it as much as I do," Camilla was quoted by Town & Country as saying. "You can escape and you can travel and you can laugh and you can cry. There’s every kind of emotion that humans experience in a book."
Last week, Camilla shared which five literary characters she would invite to a dinner party, including another character from "Pride and Prejudice," Elizabeth Bennett.
