Dwayne Johnson Reveals ‘Fast & Furious’ Biggest Star, Oscars Hosting Gig Offer
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson just made some juicy revelations about his upcoming movie “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw” and how he almost became the host for the upcoming Oscars.
On Thursday, Johnson took to Instagram to gush about who he thinks is the biggest star of the “Fast & Furious” franchise. For the semi-retired professional wrestler, it’s not Jason Statham, who is co-starring with him in the upcoming “Hobbs & Shaw” spinoff, but his pet bulldog named Hobbs.
“Today we’re on the set of ‘Hobbs & Shaw’ and it’s a very special day because we have arguably the biggest star of the movie, Hobbs himself,” Johnson says in a clip he shared on the social platform where he is seen cradling the pooch.
In the video, Johnson reveals that his pet bulldog was named after his character. In his caption, the actor indicated that he brought home Hobbs and his baby brother, Brutus, three years ago to be part of his family. Unfortunately, Brutus died a few months later.
Johnson went on to say that he is proud of Hobbs for the latter’s performance in the movie and despite the fact that the dog pooped in the middle of the set. “I’m quite proud of his performance in our movie,” he said before reiterating, “[He] is the biggest star the ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise has ever seen.”
Aside from “Hobbs & Shaw,” which is set to hit cinemas on Aug. 2, Johnson is also busy promoting his other movie, “Fighting With My Family.” At the film’s premiere at the Sundance Festival in Park City, Utah, Johnson dropped a bombshell when he revealed that he almost got this year’s Oscars hosting gig.
“Yeah, well, they actually asked me to host,” Johnson told the Hollywood Reporter at the event. The father of three disclosed that he was over the moon when he got the offer and he even thought of a “massive” song number for the awards show.
Unfortunately, scheduling conflict prevented him from committing to the gig and so he ended up turning it down. Johnson just recently wrapped filming “Hobbs & Shaw” in Hawaii, and he is now busy preparing for the “Jumanji” sequel.
At present, the high-profile job is still unfilled after Johnson’s “Jumanji” co-star Kevin Hart bowed out of the gig in December following a controversy surrounding his past homophobic tweets. However, the Academy has decided to use a different approach for the awards ceremony that’s scheduled to happen on Feb. 24 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
