'DWTS' Season 25 Elimination Shocker, Fans React To Unexpected Double Goodbyes
Halloween can be a spooky holiday, and for the "Dancing With the Stars" Season 25 teams, it certainly was one, and unfortunately, the night ended with a major trick instead of a treat, when two teams were sent home in a shocking double elimination.
Even more shocking than the double elimination being announced at the end of the episode, was the two teams who were sent home as a result, with both Team Smackdown (Nikki Bella and Artem Chigvintsev) and Team Babies and Ballroom (Vanessa Lachey and Maks Chmerkovskiy) eliminated.
Fans were stunned by the reveal after hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews revealed to the two teams, who were the last ones standing after fellow "in jeopardy" couples Drew Scott and Emma Slater and Terrell Owens and Cheryl Burke were both told they were safe, that they were both going home. The idea that it would be a double elimination had not yet been announced during the two-hour broadcast, and fans were understandably shocked.
Whoaaaa double elimination! Wasn't expecting that!#DWTS

Many were also very upset that the show failed to announce a double elimination until the final minutes of the show, but that Vanessa and Nikki were the two celebrities sent home.

One fan even suggested that things were rigged against their two teams, while others were enraged that Drew and Terrell were both still in the competition.
I used to think this show was fair, and would use every excuse in the book to say it was. But now, I'm 100 percent sure something's up #DWTS

The upset fans felt over the result likely came due to how the teams performed throughout the season. Vanessa and Maks, who dealt with some struggles as a team but overcame, started the season off very strong, and seemed like true front-runners for the Mirrorball trophy. Though they had not yet received a perfect score, they hadn't seemed in jeopardy of being sent home anytime soon, and after their spouses, Nick and Peta, were eliminated during Week 6, it seemed more likely they would stay in longer.
Similarly, Nikki and Artem had some strong performances in recent weeks. While they were roughly near the middle of the pack the first half of the season, they had started to emerge as front-runners as well.
Meanwhile, Terrell and Cheryl and Drew and Emma all had rough starts to the season, and have had some steady improvement, but both teams still had the lowest average scores when the judge's tallies for each week were combined.
Now that Vanessa and Nikki are out of the competition, the remaining six couples are Terrell and Cheryl, Drew and Emma, Frankie Muniz and Witney Carson, Lindsey Stirling and Mark Ballas, Victoria Arlen and Val Chmerkovskiy and Jordan Fisher and Lindsay Arnold.
"Dancing With the Stars" airs Mondays at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
