His albums have spent a total of 41 weeks at the number one position while his tracks have been at the top spot for over 38 weeks, which means a total of 79 weeks at number one. Sheeran is the only artist to achieve this feat. Meanwhile, his songs have been streamed 4.6 billion times in the U.K. alone.
Just a couple of weeks ago, Sheeran came second on Spotify’s list of the most-streamed artists of the decade. His song, “Shape Of You,” notched up 2.3 billion streams on the streaming service, making it one of the biggest songs of all time.
Martin Talbot, Chief Executive of the Official Charts Company, congratulated the musician for achieving this massive feat and noted that Sheeran truly has dominated this decade with his songs and is a “worthy” recipient of this amazing new accolade. He further added that the things the recognitions he has accumulated in these 10 years have been “remarkable” and now he has established himself among the superstars around the world.
The “Thinking Out Loud” hitmaker thanked his fans for supporting him and noted that he is going to do some amazing work in the next 10 years.
