Elderly Man Suffers Skull Fracture After Random Attacker Sucker-Punches Him On Manhattan Street

A 77-year-old man was left with a fractured skull after a stranger sucker-punched him in the face on a Manhattan street on Tuesday. Police said the attack was unprovoked.

The victim, who was not identified, was walking down Park Avenue South in the Flatiron District at around 11 a.m. (EDT) when the suspect ran up to the old man and attacked him, according to the New York Daily News.

The elderly man fell on his back from the impact of the punch and hit his head on the concrete, cops told the publication. He sustained serious injuries as a result of the attack including a skull fracture. Paramedics rushed him to Mount Sinai Morningside hospital. His current condition isn’t known.

The attacker fled the spot after the attack and is yet to be apprehended. In order to identify the suspect, cops examined footage from several surveillance cameras, according to the New York Daily News.

In June, an elderly woman narrowly escaped hitting her head on a fire hydrant after a stranger launched an unprovoked attack on her. The 92-year-old woman was walking down the Third Avenue in the Gramercy Park neighborhood, Manhattan, with a pushcart when a young man coming from the opposite direction used force to topple her. The assailant, later identified as Rashid Brimmage, was seen in a surveillance video striking his arm and closed fist to his left side, hitting the woman on the side of her head prompting her fall. Brimmage was then seen walking away calmly from the spot.

In January 2018, a 65-year-old man in Brooklyn, New York, fell from a subway platform and on to the tracks after a bipolar teenager sucker-punched him. The incident happened at the Jay Street Metro Tech station. The victim, Jacinto Suarez, wasn't hit by a train as other commuters rescued him from the tracks, but went into cardiac arrest due to the attack. He was brought to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
