"Emily in Paris" turned out to be Netflix's top comedy series in 2020, with over 58 million households watching it within 30 days of its release. Now, the series is all set for season 2.
British-American Actress Lily Collins, who portrayed the title role, Emily Cooper, in the series took to Instagram on Tuesday and shared a fun video featuring the star cast.
"Annnd we’re back! Beyond excited to officially be back filming saison deux of @emilyinparis!! More to come," the 32-year-old actress captioned. "A LOT more!"
The series follows Emily, who moves to Paris from Chicago, to revamp a French luxury marketing company's social media strategy.
Besides the popularity of the show, it received a good amount of criticism for not featuring French culture properly. However, some people noted the series is based on an American girl's glamorized view of Paris.
The show's creator, Darren Star, told Variety, "For me, it’s the evolution of the character. I think when someone goes to Paris for the first time, they are overwhelmed by the beauty of the city and that’s what they’re seeing."
"I think, perhaps, a lot of viewers who lived in Paris for a long time didn’t quite understand that this was through the lens of a character who was experiencing the city for the first time," the 59-year-old creator added. "That’s how she was perceiving it — she was really struck by the beauty that was all around her."
"Certainly, the more quotidian aspects of life start to come in and I think that’s what’s going to happen to her," Star explained. "The first season didn’t cover that much chronological time."
While speaking about the possibility of a second season, Collins had told Netflix in April, "I couldn’t be happier to be back in Paris for Season 2 to expand upon those lessons, to continue to grow, and learn even more about this beautiful city and all of its character with Emily."
The series also stars Lucas Bravo, Camille Razat and Ashley Park in the key roles. Besides "Emily in Paris," Collins was also seen in the Vaughn Stein helmed thriller, "Inheritance," which released on April 30, last year.
