“Empire” Season 3 hasn’t even returned to Fox yet, and cast member Jussie Smollett is already thinking about the series finale.

In an interview with Hollywood Life, the actor spilled on what fans can expect from the season finale and what is next for his character Jamal Lyon when the series returns.

Smollett teased that the season finale will have a nostalgic feel to it. “What I can say is that what I’ve been hearing is that it has all the elements of what made people fall in love with the show,” the actor said.

Smollett explained that when “Empire” Season 3 returns, fans will get a little bit of everything. “You’re laughing, you’re crying, you’re angry, you’re entertained, but at the end of the day it’s about a family, and it’s all of those things. We’re not all comedy, we’re not all drama, we’re just life. It has all of that,” he said.

Aside from a Season 3 finale that has it all, Smollett’s character still has his demons. During the fall finale, Jamal was sent to rehab after getting addicted to painkillers, and when the series returns fans will see Jamal in treatment.

However, despite his current predicament, Smollett revealed that Jamal is still focused on his music and ready to get back to work, but this won’t be an easy task.

“So that’s where he’s at, but the problem is that since he’s still in rehab, who knows if he’s at a point where he needs to be out. With him again, music has served as a therapy and the Lyons forever,” the Fox star explained.

The star revealed that though Jamal will be struggling with his own problems, he will still try to fix the rift in his family. “He’s going to keep going into fix-it mode, wanting to fix his family, which is a classic case when you get out of rehab and you’re dealing with some sort of addiction.”

However, Smollett admitted Jamal’s hopes of fixing his family will be neither simple nor easy, but what else can you expect when it comes to the Lyons?

“Empire” Season 3 returns on Wednesday at 9 p.m. EDT on Fox.
