  • Instead of listing the NFT for 444 ETH, the collector listed it for 444 Wei
  • Wei is the smallest denominator of Ether
  • The NFT collector took to Twitter to talk about his misfortune

An art collector has accidentally sold an Etherrock NFT worth $1 million dollars for less than a penny. Instead of listing for 444 ETH, the collector listed the NFT for 444 Wei, and it was immediately grabbed by someone.

Taking to Twitter on March 10, the NFT collector said, "How's your week? Mine? I just erroneously listed @etherrock #44 for 444 wei instead of 444 eth Bot sniped it in the same block and tried to flip for 234 eth. In one click, my entire net worth of $1 million dollars, gone. Is there any hope? Am I GMI? Can snipers show mercy?"

Wei is the smallest denominator of Ether and is equal to one quintillionth of ETH. As of 4.45 a.m. ET, Ethereum was trading at $2588, CoinMarketCap data showed.

Right after the tweet, users started gathering attention from netizens.

One user wrote, "What a pity that people lose their bank on inattention. Hang on in there, brother! Hope everything will be ok!"

Another user gave a sarcastic take and wrote, "Dude should mint an NFT of that memorable event."

Etherrock is one of the first crypto collectible NFT-type projects on the Ethereum blockchain, having launched in 2017. The Etherrock collection is similar to Bored Ape NFTs and CryptoPunks.

This is not the first time an NFT collector has suffered losses due to such accidental listings. Last December, a man named Max sold $300,000 worth Bored Ape NFT for $3000 owing to a"fat-finger" error.

Max, username maxnaut, had meant to price the NFT at 75 ether (around $300,000), but accidentally typed 0.75 ether (roughly $3,000).

Before he could correct the mistake, the NFT was taken by a bot programmed to find and buy undervalued listings. The buyer wasted no time snapping it up, even paying a higher transaction fee.
