On the Season 1 finale of HBO's "Euphoria," fans were left wondering what Rue's (Zendaya) fate would be come Season 2 after being left with a cliffhanger. Series creator Sam Levinson recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter and revealed the direction he intends to take the series for its upcoming season on HBO.

When speaking about the final scene, the creator said that he felt it was "the right decision emotionally for the piece" and that a lot of the credit regarding its impact needed to be given to choreographer Ryan Heffington.

"I think the idea is in the back and forth of Rue getting shoved towards this mountain of bodies and the metaphor of that, and what it means to be an addict," Levinson shared.

He also revealed that Zendaya was initially hesitant to include the musical number, saying that, at the time, she couldn't clearly see his vision. However, she eventually came to a place of understanding what he was looking for and fully committed not only in terms of acting, but also when it came to providing the vocals for the season's finale.

Levinson also acknowledged the fan theories that had been circulating regarding Rue's death and all of the unanswered questions that viewers were left to contemplate. "I love what people's interpretations are of it. Rue's not dead, if that's the question," he clearly stated, adding, "That I can say for certain."

As for where Season 2 will take the rest of the characters, he said he has a general idea of the direction he wants to take the story, but he doesn't outline in advance because he would become bored. "I just follow the characters and allow it to take on its own world. But I've got a fairly clear sense of where it's going and I've already started writing a good portion of it," he said.

Additionally, he shared that he would like to also dive into specific stories regarding Rue and her family before moving onto other things and the backgrounds of particular characters, such as Lexi (Maude Apatow) and Fezco (Angus Cloud).

"...Going into Season 2, we know who all of these characters are, so the possibilities of it become exciting from a writing and filmmaking standpoint," he concluded.
