'Everybody Plays the Fool' Singer Cuba Gooding Sr.'s Top Five Songs
Cuba Gooding Sr., legendary lead singer of the group The Main Ingredient, who was most remembered for his two biggest hits "Everybody Plays the Fool" (1972) and "Just Don't Want to Be Lonely" (1974) was found dead Thursday afternoon in San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles. Father to the Oscar winner Cuba Gooding Jr., he collapsed in his vehicle, which was parked on Ventura Boulevard in Woodland Hills, TMZ reported.
The fire department responded to the scene and tried to attempt CPR, but could not revive him, according to TMZ.

Gooding Sr. was the lead singer of the soul and R&B group The Main Ingredient, which belted out several hits in 1970s. The band was formed in Harlem — a large neighborhood in the northern section of the New York City borough of Manhattan — in 1964. It first went by the name of The Poets, which had Donald McPherson, Luther Simmons Jr. and Tony Silvester as its members. The group was renamed to The Insiders soon after its initial songs, and in 1968, changed its name to The Main Ingredient.
The band has toured the world extensively. With the untimely death of the band's lead singer, McPherson, in 1971, the group had to undergo some transformation and made Gooding Sr. its lead singer. He had served as a backup vocalist for the group during McPherson’s reign and had toured with the band when McPherson was ill and could not make it.
