In the wake of a cheating scandal, disgraced ex-Hillsong pastor Carl Lentz is seeking treatment at a facility, a report claims.
Lentz, who used to be Justin Bieber’s pastor and spiritual adviser, is focusing on himself for his family by seeking treatment, a source told People. This comes after he was fired from the megachurch and eventually admitted to cheating on his wife, Laura, of 17 years.
He is seeking “treatment at an outpatient facility that specializes in depression, anxiety and pastoral burnout,” an insider close to Lentz shared, adding that the ex-pastor “wants to be better for his family and is dedicated to doing the work.”
“His family is supporting him and hopes their privacy will be respected on this journey. He has no ill will towards the church and recognizes that they needed to take some course of action to address his missteps,” the source added.
Prior to this news, a leaked recording obtained by Page Six revealed that Lentz had multiple affairs but will still receive severance pay from Hillsong. The megachurch’s founder, Brian Houston, also allegedly had problems with the ex-pastor long before he was axed from his post, describing him as “a difficult man.”
Lentz also allegedly celebrated Thanksgiving together with his wife and kids despite the cheating drama. An unnamed friend of the pastor and Laura said they stayed home for the holiday as they had always planned.
They have also been “taking it day by day,” a source said. The pair have also decided to weather the storm and are reportedly going to therapy to fix their relationship.
Laura has also decided to stand by Lentz’s side despite his admission that he cheated on her. In his social media announcement, the father of three revealed that he was “I was unfaithful in my marriage, the most important relationship in my life and held accountable for that.”
“This failure is on me, and me alone and I take full responsibility for my actions. I now begin a journey of rebuilding trust with my wife, Laura and my children and taking real time to work on and heal my own life and seek out the help that I need,” he wrote.
