World-famous clothing brand icon Tommy Hilfiger has revealed how Formula One superstar Lewis Hamiton gave his brand a refresher.
Off the race track, Hamilton has proven that he is more than just an F1 racer. The naturally shy Hamilton has always channelled his personality through his own sense of style. In fact, last year, the 6-time world cahmp was recognized as an "icon" by Sports Illustrated. Along with women's tennis superstar Serena Williams, Hamilton was included in the magazine’s “Fashionable Fifty.”
In a special appearance on The BoF Podcast, Hamilton revealed that his first foray into fashion was at a Hugo Boss runway show which sparked an interest in an industry “that embraces individual self-expression.” He felt his passion for music and style was reflected in the clothes and that “gave him that space to be able to express himself.”
Hamilton’s most recent collaboration is with Tommy Hilfiger. Looking back at how the partnership started, it appears that from the front row to backstage, Hamilton transformed chance meetings with Tommy Hilfiger into a Mercedes-Tommy Hilfiger official apparel partnership that ended Mercedes’ long-term relationship with Hugo Boss. And in 2018, he inked a deal to become a Tommy Hilfiger ambassador.
Also making a special appearance on the said podcast episode was Hilfiger himself, who expressed his admiration on Hamilton’s “sense of style.”
“I liked him as a person and I liked his sense of style. He also brought in a lot of his own ideas and it gave our brand a refresher,” Hilfiger said of Hamilton.
Hilfiger even revealed that Hamilton has been putting on work on the said collaboration and really paid attention to details.
“From the development of the font of the logo down to the zippers and the buttons, he spent hours with the team,” Hilfiger revealed.
Tommy Hilfiger’s latest “see-now-buy-now collection” is a mix of graffiti-laden neon cargo pants, utility vests and classic logo emblazoned knitwear. This marked the release of the American brand’s fourth collaboration with Hamilton.
But just recently, Hamilton infused Tommy Hilfiger with his vegan advocacy and launched a vegan fashion collection for Spring 2020. The collection, called “TommyXLewis” debuted at a minimal runway show in London, England, Vegan News reported.
The said collection aims to promote organic lifestyle. An important element Hamilton pushed for the collection was using more sustainable materials, such as organic cotton, recycled water bottles, and vegan down made by eco-friendly materials company Sorona.
