KEY POINTS

  • New players should take their time with the main story quests first
  • All of Appalachia is free to explore from the very beginning
  • Exploration and questing are the two things players should focus on

Bethesda has worked hard to save “Fallout 76” from its horrendous launch. After several updates and tons of bug fixes, the game has finally reached a state that deserves the attention of “Fallout” fans.

Players who are just starting their journey through the Appalachian Wasteland may be overwhelmed by the sheer number of things the game throws at them. Here’s a quick guide for players who don’t know what to do in “Fallout 76.”

Finish the Overseer and Wastelanders Campaigns

The main questlines can be set aside for later, but it should be the first things players do in the game.

After creating a character, players will be tasked with following the Overseer of Vault 76 and her cookie-crumb trail of holotapes and messages. Though this may not be the most exciting part of the game, players should still play through it until the end for the rewards and the bombshell ending quest.

As of the “Wastelanders” update, the game received a brand new questline with fully voiced NPCs much more similar to a classic “Fallout” campaign. Players will meet two NPCs outside of Vault 76 to lead them to the Wayward and a greater questline that involves all of the new settlers of West Virginia.

Do Sidequests

Every now and then, a blip on the compass might lead to a new quest for players to experience. Make sure to inspect everything because they might lead to some fun encounters in true “Fallout” fashion.

Join public events

“Fallout 76” is an MMO at heart, and as such it has a variety of public events for players to join. Walk up to any event area on the map and help others complete the objective to get some rewards. Participation percentage is irrelevant, but players should still aspire to do as much.

Explore everything, go everywhere

Almost every point of interest is worth visiting at least once. Valuable loot like weapons, armor, meds and crafting plans can be found in places that players least expect. Some POIs may have power armor frames, legendary weapons or absolutely nothing.

Exploration is at the core of “Fallout 76.” Get out there and enjoy the beautiful post-apocalypse.
