Production was halted on the set of “Fast & Furious 9” after an accident involving one of the film’s stuntmen.

According to Hollywood Reporter, the unnamed stuntman needed to be airlifted from the set at Hertfordshire’s Leavesden Studios after a fall. Production on the blockbuster sequel has been shut down while the situation is attended to.

“We had an injury on the set of 'Fast 9' today in Leavesden with one of our stuntmen,” a Universal spokesman told THR. “We have halted production for the day to focus on this situation.”

The East of England Ambulance Service (EEAS) confirmed that the stunt performer had suffered from a serious head injury when he was taken away.

“An ambulance, three ambulance officer vehicles and Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were called to Leavesden Studios shortly before midday today (July 22),” the EEAS said. “Following reports of a man injured in a fall. One patient with a serious head injury was transported to the Royal London Hospital by air ambulance.”

The exact extent of his injuries and the nature of the accident are unknown at this time.

“Fast & Furious 9” is set for release on May 22, 2020 and is directed by returning franchise veteran Justin Lin. It stars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Jordana Brewster, Helen Mirren, Nathalie Emmanuel, Charlize Theron and John Cena.
