'Fight Song' Singer Rachel Platten Welcomes Baby Girl During At-Home Water Birth [Photos]
Rachel Platten is cuddling a reward after fighting through a painful childbirth process. The "Fight Song" singer welcomed her second baby girl on Sept. 9 through a home water birth, which she described as a "grueling" ordeal that lasted over two days.
The 40-year-old multi-hyphenate announced the news Wednesday by sharing a series of photos of herself and her newborn.
"Introducing Sophie Jo Lazan. Born 9/9/21 at home in a water birth after 2.5 grueling days of labor. When I thought I couldn't take anymore, this amazing, wise little one kept whispering to me 'we can do this mama, we can do this,'" Platten wrote.
She detailed her difficult childbirth experience and also thanked her fans for supporting her during the entire pregnancy.
"So i kept going one contraction at a time. I feel like a warrior and I will NEVER doubt my strength again. Thank you, Sophie, for showing me what I am made of and for completing our family. And Thank YOU all so much for your love and support and for allowing me the privacy these last couple of months to just be with my family and prepare for this new life. Sending you all the coziest new baby snuggles. _ please, please positive comments only," she said.
Platten first shared the news about her pregnancy when she appeared on "The Talk" in April.
"I realized when I got asked to do the show today, I was like, I haven't announced this yet. I guess I'm going to have to announce this. So, this is my announcement!" she told the hosts of the show, Page Six reported.
When the show's hosts gave Platten her first official baby gift – a "Talk" onesie, she responded, "That is so, so meaningful. I appreciate it."
Platten and her husband Kevin Lazan also share a 2-year-old daughter, Violet Skye. She released a children's book, titled "You Belong," last year. In the picture book, the singer-songwriter wrote a poem about the plethora of emotions a mother experiences while welcoming a child.
"I'm patiently waiting for you to arrive
I want to meet you so much I could cry
I wonder whose hands and whose eyes you will have?
I wonder if you’re going to smile like your dad?
Nothing you ever do will be so wrong
You belong, you belong"
