A 9-month-old baby was found dead at her home after she drowned in a bathtub while her parents were asleep. The incident took place at Hobe Sound, Florida, on Friday afternoon.

According to the sheriff’s office, the child’s mother, identified as 29-year-old Heather Clifford, was giving the baby a bath when she decided to leave her alone in the bathtub for about 20 minutes to take a nap. When she went back to check on her, she found the infant, identified as Cameron Davis, unresponsive and immediately called the emergency services. The baby’s father, 30-year-old Shawn Davis, was also reportedly sleeping when the incident occurred.

Martin County Sheriff William Snyder said when the deputies arrived at the scene, they found the baby’s father trying to provide CPR to the child. The baby was then taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

“For some period of time, at least 20 minutes, that child was left alone in the bathtub. When she came back she found the baby what they described as blue," Snyder said. "Obviously a 9-month-old alone in a bathtub could be prevented. It's very suspicious.”

A spokesperson from Martin County Sheriff's Office stated that the married couple lives with three children, and the authorities had been called to the house three times in the past.

Snyder stated that the couple's two remaining children were moved from the home by the Department of Children and Families officials who were assisting the investigation. The state attorney’s office was contacted in order to determine if any criminal charges were to be filed.

So far, no arrests were made and the incident was under investigation.
