Former 'American Idol' Contestant Constantine Maroulis Arrested After Allegedly Kicking Ex-Girlfriend
Constantine Maroulis has become the latest celebrity to be accused of domestic violence. The former “American Idol” contestant has been charged with harming his ex-girlfriend, Angel Reed.
TMZ reports that Maroulis was arrested Wednesday morning after allegedly kicking Reed in the groin. Reed called the police Wednesday from the couples' home in Wyckoff, New Jersey.
Maroulis's representative told the New York Daily News he did not kick her in the groin, and that he was acting in self-defense.
"He consequently left their home to protect himself and to diffuse the situation. Sometime later the local police came and arrested him for domestic abuse,” the rep said. “When all the facts come out it will become clear that Mr. Maroulis was the victim here and Ms. Reed was the aggressor.”
According to People, Reed told police that Maroulis threw her down to ground before kicking her, but Reed also allegedly threw things at Maroulis and took a swing at him. The argument reportedly broke out after he told her he was leaving her.
The couple had been dating for six years after meeting on the set of the Broadway play “Rock of Ages.” They have a 4-year-old daughter, Malena James.
The 39-year-old was released from police custody after posting bail. It was reported Maroulis injured his right thigh after Redd threw something at him.
Maroulis finished in sixth place in the fourth season of “American Idol.” He also appeared in "Jekyll and Hyde" on Broadway.
