Is Fox’s ‘Star’ Renewed Or Canceled For Season 4?
UPDATE: May 11, 12:30 p.m. EDT -- The curtains have closed on “Star,” at least for now. Fox canceled the musical drama yesterday after three seasons. A bit of hope still remains for the show, though, as Deadline reports its producing studio, 20th Century Fox Television, is trying to find it a new home.
Original story: It’s a big night on Fox, as it’s both the Season 5 finale of “Empire” and the Season 3 finale of “Star.”
While the former’s already been renewed for Season 6, the latter’s future remains uncertain. Both shows were created by Lee Daniels and focus on the music industry, but only “Star” continues to fight for a place on Fox’s 2019-20 TV schedule.
When it comes to ratings, the show averages about 3.544 million viewers per week and comes in as Fox’s number six scripted series, out of 16, in the 18-49 demographic, with 1.07 million viewers, according to TV Series Finale. It sits ahead of already-renewed “The Resident” in the demo, but about 1.5 million people behind it in total viewers.
To compare with its sibling series, “Empire” has about 4.543 million in total viewers and a 1.36 average for the demo.
So, will “Star” get canceled or will it get renewed for Season 4? The ultimate decision hasn’t been made yet by Fox, but one thing’s for sure and that’s that there’s still the Season 3 finale left for fans to enjoy tonight.
In Season 3, episode 18, titled “When the Levee Breaks,” there’s a lot of drama leading up to and on Alex’s (Ryan Destiny) big day.
“The ASAs finally arrive and Take 3 fights Amber Drake (guest star Erika Tham) for the top spot,” the synopsis reveals. “Alex prepares for her wedding, but someone from her past returns to wreak havoc on her big day. Meanwhile, Star [Jude Demorest] finally makes a decision about Davis, Carlotta [Queen Latifah] continues to mend things with Rashad (guest star Major) and the season ends with a bang.”
Watch the Season 3 finale of “Star” on Fox on Wednesday at 9 p.m. EDT.
