  • Frankie Jonas reveals how he tried to kill himself
  • The musician discloses "drinking and drugging" became his escape
  • He further said how he "hated life" as a teenager

The youngest of the Jonas Brothers, Frankie Jonas, has opened up about his struggles with drugs and alcohol. The 20-year-old musician took to his TikTok on Monday to share a video explaining how he tried to kill himself.

"This is by no means the eloquent explanation I hope to one day give on a much more serious mode than this,” Jonas explained. “However, from a very young age, I struggled with drinking and drugging as an escape because I hated life and I didn’t wanna be here.

"I eventually, after many years of trying to kill myself accidentally, came to a point where I was going to do it for real. Something intervened, and my life was saved," he continued, ET Online reported. "I went to treatment, and it saved me.”

“I couldn't be more grateful for the fact that I'm alive today because my world has changed so beautifully and so astronomically, and I am not that person anymore. I couldn't be more grateful that I'm alive and happy," he added.

Jonas posted the TikTok video in response to a user, who asked the "Chasing Happiness" star about his addiction. In one of his earlier videos, Jonas called himself a "sober drug addict" while answering a fan's question regarding imposter syndrome.

"I am a sober drug addict who goes to Columbia University now," he said, People reported. "I don't belong there! It's okay that I feel that, but it doesn't make me less than anyone else, it doesn't make me more than anyone else. It's also good to understand that imposter syndrome can sometimes lead to a messiah complex, and that's not good either. But it's okay to be in the middle."

Jonas also reflected on his grades and said it doesn't really matter if he gets A's or F's. "Like, the middle of the pack is a great place to be as long as I'm comfortable with myself," he noted. "My mental health, stability and love of life is the priority. If I can use that while learning, then let's get it."

In November 2016, when the musician was just 16 years old, he was issued a citation by police for marijuana possession.
