The wait for the “Game of Thrones” Season 5 trailer is nearly over. But fans might have to go a bit out of their way to be among the first to see the much-anticipated preview. HBO has announced that it is sending the trailer to theaters attached to two episodes from Season 4 in a special IMAX release.

HBO announced in a press release Tuesday that staring on Jan. 23, the last two episodes of Season 4 will be shown theatrically in more than 150 IMAX theaters across the country. Attached to those episodes will be the first full trailer for Season 5, something fans have been waiting for while being teased with promos like the Three-Eyed Raven social media campaign. The exact list of theaters will be made available soon on IMAX.com. Fans probably can look forward to a wider release of the trailer – online and on HBO Go – soon after.

As for the two Season 4 episodes, HBO will be releasing “The Watchers on the Wall” and “The Children” as part of the IMAX showing. That should be a treat for fans as they will have the opportunity to see the climactic battle of Castle Black on the big screen, as well as the drama of Tyrion’s (Peter Dinklage) murderous rampage and escape from prison.

This marks the first time a television show has garnered an IMAX release. The episodes have been remastered to fit the IMAX format for the weeklong release.

Hardcore fans can now mark their calendars to become one of the first people to view the “Game of Thrones” Season 5 trailer. The theatrical special kicks off on Jan. 23 and will last one week. The trailer will just be icing on the cake for fans getting a big-screen refresher before the Season 5 premiere in the spring.
