‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 6 Theories: Who Will Be The Next Big Character To Die? Odds Revealed
The battle for Winterfell is heating up on HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” and the final two episodes of Season 6 promise what’s sure to be a bloody battle between Jon Snow and Ramsay Bolton. As viewers have learned by now, no character is safe from death.
“Game of Thrones” fans have begun taking bets about who will be the next major character killed off, according to a press release from Boyle Sports. Based on their data, characters like the Hound (Rory McCann), Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and Lord Varys (Conleth Hill) should be safe. Everyone else, however, is fair game.
Boyle Sports currently has Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon) favored for the show’s next major death with 1/3 odds. Close behind are Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) with 11/4 odds and Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) and Tommen Baratheon (Dean-Charles Chapman) both with 9/2 odds.
Aoife Heffron, a PR executive at Boyle Sports, weighed in on the odds, providing a brief explanation about Queen Mother Cersei being so high on the list. She said there is a good chance that Tommen will sentence his mother to death, given his Season 6, episode 8, order regarding trial by combat. And without the Mountain (Hafthor Bjornsson) to fight her battles, Cersei is in serious danger.
“Being the King of the Iron Throne puts Tommen Baratheon firmly in the firing line to be axed next, but at 11/4 it is his mother, Cersei Lannister, who is in danger of being killed off, which is not a stretch after he sentenced his own mother to trial and could see her sentenced to death,” Heffron said.
On June 9, HBO released the titles of the final two episodes in Season 6 of “Game of Thrones.” While no synopses were included, the episode names provided some serious clues as to what may be coming next. According to Entertainment Weekly, episode 9, airing on June 19, is called “The Battle of the Bastards.” Even without details about the episode’s happenings, fans can assume that this means the two most prominent bastard children on “Game of Thrones” — Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) and Ramsay — will face one another. This theory was later supported by the release of an episode preview.
The finale, slated to air June 26, is named after author George R.R. Martin’s forthcoming novel “The Winds of Winter.” With the book still being written and only a few chapters to go by, what this title means is anyone’s guess. Nothing more is known about the final episode of Season 6 at this time, aside from the fact that it will be 69 minutes long — giving viewers nearly 10 extra minutes of show time.
Which of the show’s main characters do you think will get the axe next? Tune in to HBO Sunday, June 19, at 10 p.m. EDT to see if your predictions are correct.
