Nearly one week after singer George Michael’s death many fans remain in the dark about what happened. A preliminary autopsy has been performed in the hopes of revealing the Grammy award winner’s cause of death — but was it a success?

On Friday, police confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that Michael’s autopsy results were “inconclusive.” The autopsy was performed on Thursday, according to the statement from Thames Valley Police officer Hannah Jones. Authorities intend to continue running tests, though the results of those are expected to take quite a while.

“A postmortem examination was carried out yesterday as part of the investigation into the death of George Michael,” the statement to THR said. “The cause of death is inconclusive and further tests will now be carried out. The results of these tests are unlikely to be known for several weeks.”

Thames Valley Police claim Michael’s death is certainly mysterious, but they do not suspect foul play. Additional testing will determine that definitively. While no official cause of death has been revealed, Michael’s manager, Michael Lippman, previously told THR he believed heart failure was to blame. Lippman assured fans that Michael died “in bed, lying peacefully.” He added that he was “devastated” and echoed the police sentiment that there had been “no foul play whatsoever.”

Funeral arrangements for Michael have been made. The event is slated to be somber, yet star studded. Fellow musician and friend Elton John will perform during the funeral, according to Metro. Two ceremonies will be held — one for friends and family and another for fans. Michael will reportedly be buried alongside his late mother Lesley Angold Panayiotou in Highgate Cemetery. Sources told The Sun Michael was close with Panayiotou during her lifetime and would be pleased to reunite with her in death.

“George’s love for his mother remained as strong as it had always been, and he always said he hoped he would be able to be with her again,” the source said. “George Michael’s family have a private plot where his mother is buried — and there is currently space within it for further burials.”

Michael died on Christmas day. His body was discovered by longtime boyfriend Fadi Fawaz, who had planned to spend the day with him. Fawaz arrived at Michael’s home to wake him so that he may get ready for the lunch they were scheduled to attend only to find that he had died. Fawaz recounted the tragedy for the British Daily, calling the “Praying For Time” singer “a beautiful person.” He added that neither he nor anyone close to Michael was sure what caused his death at the time.

“We were supposed to be going to Christmas lunch. I went round there to wake him up and he was just gone, lying peacefully in bed. We don’t know what happened yet. Everything had been very complicated recently, but George was looking forward to Christmas, and so was I. Now everything is ruined. I want people to remember him the way he was — he was a beautiful person.”
