A family in Thailand was heartbroken after they discovered their pet cat had been devoured by a giant snake.

Kanchi Nard posted on Facebook that her daughter Gracia, 11, was horrified to see the snake, with a bulge in its stomach, moments after their pet cat went missing Saturday. Nard wrote the little girl screamed "snake," which is when the family rushed to see what had happened.

When the girl said she could not find their cat named Ho Jun, the mother realized the reptile had eaten the feline.

“It's so heartbreaking,” Nard wrote, along with a photo of the large snake. According to Yahoo News Australia, the snake had slithered inside a room in their family home.

"She is very sad. She is speechless. Hurt," she wrote, adding: “RIP Handsome Ho Jun. Mother will love and miss you forever."

The family alerted a crew of emergency workers, who arrived at the scene and caught the snake. The reptile's species was not revealed.

Several social media users expressed their sorrow, saying the incident was "such a nightmare." Another person wrote it was "devastating" to look at the photos of the "poor cat."

In a similar incident in Australia, a pet kitten was eaten by a huge snake after it slithered into a home in January. A video was posted by snake catcher Stuart McKenzie showing the python devouring the kitten. McKenzie was called after the family found the carpet python attacking their pet. In the post, McKenzie said the family tried to save their kitten with a broomstick but failed. “You can see the snake trying to line the cat up so it can try and swallow it but I’m going to separate them because it is a very sad situation,” McKenzie said in the video filmed by him. “This is someone’s pet and they obviously want to be able to bury it.” He urged other pet owners to be vigilant and keep the animals in their sight.
