Gina Rodriguez Wants To Take On America Chavez Role For Marvel
“Jane the Virgin” star Gina Rodriguez has some experience working on movies. After all, she co-starred alongside Mark Wahlberg in the environmental film “Deepwater Horizon.”
It seems that the actress is keen on repeating her movie stint as she revealed during the “Hacking the Script: Disrupting Diversity in Hollywood” panel at SXSW that she wants to play Marvel’s America Chavez, reported Geeks of Color.

Rodriguez revealed that she is a huge fan of the character and already told her manager to set her up for an audition with Marvel should the studio decide to make a movie based on America Chavez.
For those who are unfamiliar with the character, Chavez is part of the Young Avengers. According to Nerdist, she was raised by two moms in a woman-only utopian parallel universe. She is also a queer superhero who describes herself as a “flying, dimension-hopping, virtually indestructible lesbian.”
Chavez hasn’t fully realized all of her powers yet, but so far, she has superhuman strength and speed, invulnerability and inter-dimensional travel ability.
Meanwhile, Rodriguez currently stars as Jane Gloriana Villanueva in the CW series “Jane the Virgin,” which is currently on its third season. Jane is still reeling from the loss of her husband, Michael Cordero (Brett Dier). Even though it has been three years since he died, Jane still misses him terribly.
After Michael died, some fans began questioning whether or not Jane and Rafael Solano (Justin Baldoni) would rekindle their romance. When one fan asked journalist Michael Ausiello from TV Line about it, he answered, “His body is barely cold. Are you heartless?”
Ausiello added that Jane won’t be seeing anybody new for a while. “If you’re like me, you’re probably wondering how long it’ll be before Jane starts boning Rafael. Well, based on what I’m hearing about Monday’s episode, you may have to wait a while,” he said.
“Jane the Virgin” Season 3 airs every Monday at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
