Golden Globe 2017: Ryan Gosling Dedicates Best Actor Win To Eva Mendes’ Brother After Cancer Battle, Praises Her Parenting
Ryan Gosling is a talented actor, dedicated father and loving partner. The “La La Land” star was announced the winner for best actor in a motion picture during the Golden Globes on Sunday and made sure to shout out to Eva Mendes and his daughters during his acceptance speech.
Despite buzz about “La La Land” sweeping during the 74th annual award show, Gosling appeared utterly shocked to be on the stage with a statuette in his hand. He joked that there must have been a mixup before delivering a heartwarming thank you to Mendes, whom he claimed made it possible for him to star in “La La Land.” In addition to caring for their oldest daughter Esmeralda while pregnant with Amada, Gosling revealed that Mendes was dedicated to caring for her ailing brother who was battling cancer at the time. The actor dedicated his big win to Juan Carlos Mendes’ memory.
Gosling was up against Colin Farrell for “The Lobster; Hugh Grant for “Florence Foster Jenkins”; Jonah Hill for “War Dogs” and Ryan Reynolds for his performance in “Deadpool.” Gosling joked that the award must have been meant for Reynolds, whom he is often mistaken for.
