The broadcast of the 76th Golden Globe Awards is only hours away, which means award season has officially begun. The annual ceremony will kick off on Sunday night by gathering the brightest stars in film and television to honor their achievements.

While it’s typical to get excited about the red carpet fashion and potential omg moments, it’s easy to overlook all the history behind the ceremony. Check out this list of fun facts and trivia ahead of the 2019 Golden Globe Awards.

1. Most Nominations This Year. Adam McKay’s biopic about Dick Cheney, “Vice” has received six nominations.

2. There’s A First Time For Everything. “Town Without Pity,” composed by Dimitri Tiomkin won the very first Golden Globe award for best original song category in 1962.

3. Most Nominations Ever. Meryl Streep has received 31 Golden Globe nominations, making her the most nominated actor in the history of the award show.

4. Location. The first Golden Globes Awards ceremony was held on Jan. 20, 1944 at the 20th Century Fox studios. This year, the 2019 ceremony will take place at The Beverly Hilton.

5. It’s A Tie. The first and only three-way tie in the history of the Golden Globes was between Jodie Foster, Sigourney Weaver and Shirley MacLaine for best actress in 1989.

6. All Hail The Queen. Barbra Streisand was the first woman to win Best Director at the Golden Globes for her work on “Yentl.”

7. New Award. In 2018, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced a new award would be added to the ceremony, the Carol Burnett Award. Going forward, the award will honor those who have achieved great things both off and on television.

8. Lifetime Achievement. The Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement was added to the list of awards in 1952 when Cecil B. DeMille was honored for his contributions in film. Past recipients include Oprah Winfrey, Joan Crawford, Walt Disney, Sidney Poitier and George Clooney.

9. New Makeover. In November 2018, the HFPA unveiled the new design for the Golden Globe statue, which will be made up of brass, zinc and bronze and weigh 7.8 lbs.

10. The Hosts. While Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh will are set to co-host the 2019 Golden Globes, the first people to host the ceremony were John Larroquette and Janine Turner in 1995. After that, the award show didn’t have another host until Ricky Gervais in 2010.

11. Rejections. Marlon Brando refused to claim his 1973 Golden Globe Award for his role in “The Godfather” as a way to protest against the Vietnam war.

12. Making History. “La La Land” broke Golden Globe records for the most wins by a film in 2017 after picking up 7 awards.
