‘Gotham’ Season 3 Spoilers: Cameron Monaghan Reveals Which Joker Inspired Him The Most
Cameron Monaghan really made the Joker of the Fox show “Gotham” his own. Of course, the actor understands that he is not the first one to portray the iconic villain, so comparisons would definitely be made with other actors’ interpretations.
However, he did tell Comic Book that “there was never a moment where [he] was intentionally cribbing from another actor.” “We get to do a lot of stuff with him that has never really been done with a live action version of the Joker before, so we were able to have some real fun with him this time around,” he said.
The Joker has already been played by Jared Leto in “Suicide Squad,” Heath Ledger in “The Dark Knight,” Jack Nicholson in “Batman” and Mark Hamill in “Batman: The Animated Series.”
Out of all these seasoned actors’ portrayals, Monaghan said there was one that influenced him more than the others. “If anyone was to inspire my performance, it would be Mark Hamill's animated Joker, which I think I might have mentioned to you before but his portrayal was the only one that I felt comfortable at all taking anything from, and that's because there was going to be such a difference in translating from animated to live action,” he said.
Aside from Hamill, “the majority of [his] inspiration, when possible, came from the comic books themselves.”
The Joker’s return this Season 3 has really been the highlight of the show, but sadly, “Gotham” has just aired its winter finale.
Fans did not appreciate that only three episodes were aired following the mid-season finale last December. “Finale??? We just went like 2 months without an episode. Excuse me while I faint,” a fan named Javier Salas posted on Facebook. James Baptiste also weighed in, saying: “All these ‘breaks’ makes it hard to stay interested.”
But Carmen Bicondova, who plays Selina Kyle in the series, assured fans that the show will return sooner than expected.
“Gotham” Season 3, episode 15, titled “How the Riddler Got His Name,” will return on April 24.
