‘Gotham’ Season 4 Spoilers: Cast Teases Confrontation Between Penguin And Professor Pyg

The organized crime orchestrated by the Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) seems unstoppable, with only Detective Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) making an attempt to take it down in “Gotham” Season 4.

But recently, Jim got unwanted help from a new villain named Professor Pyg (Michael Cerveris). Instead of going after the Penguin directly, Professor Pyg started gaining attention by killing crooked cops and planting pigs’ heads on top of their dead bodies.

It is only a matter of time before Professor Pyg comes face to face with the Penguin, and Taylor told Collider that the scene is going to be pretty intense to watch.

“Ho, ho, let me tell you! Hands down one of my favorite, top five scenes of the entire series, we just shot last week. It’s a huge, big climax scene in episode nine, which involves Professor Pyg, played by Michael Cerveris, who is the absolute best. It’s a competition between him and Oswald, is what I can say,” he said.

Cerveris told USA Today that Professor Pyg views Penguin as the enemy while he feels a kinship with Gordon. “He is almost looking at Gordon as an ally, like ‘I’m on your side, Jim.’ And Jim is saying, ‘No, you’re actually a sociopath.’ So it works in many ways as a seduction on Pyg’s part as he tries to pull (Jim) in,” said executive producer John Stephens.

But since Professor Pyg is a “chameleon-like person,” Stephens said the character’s plan will change “episode by episode.” He added that Professor Pyg is in a league of his own because “he hits that sweet spot of being grotesque and terrifying, but also a little bit in that fairy-tale-esque world.”

According to TV Line, Cerveris will appear in several episodes, and it’s all thanks to his buddy status with executive producer Danny Cannon. “Michael is one of my best friends,” Cannon said. “He was in my film school graduation movie, when we were both amateurs. And now he’s joining the fold as Professor Pyg.”
