‘Gotham’ Season 4 Spoilers: Stars Draw Hype For Professor Pyg
The Fox show “Gotham” already has its fill of villains, so adding another one into the mix isn’t really revolutionary news. However, when that villain is played by Tony Award-winning actor Michael Cerveris, then the hype is really worth it.
Even the stars of “Gotham” cannot wait for fans to see Cerveris in action as Professor Pyg. Donal Logue, who plays Detective Harvey Bullock, told Screen Rant: “We have Michael Cerveris coming in and playing Professor Pyg and he’s such an incredibly gifted actor and, as happens a lot, the gentlest and most gifted of artistic souls can play the darkest, creepiest human beings known to literature or film.”
Robin Lord Taylor, who plays Oswald Cobblepot, shared the same sentiment. “I’m really really excited for people to see Professor Pyg. He’s coming in in the next episode and he’s played by Michael Cerveris, who is a genius actor … just absolutely brilliant,” he gushed. “Visually, and his performance is transformative, so I’m really excited for people to see it because it’s really been something else to watch.”
According to TV Line, Cerveris will appear in several episodes, and it’s all thanks to his buddy status with executive producer Danny Cannon. “Michael is one of my best friends,” Cannon said. “He was in my film school graduation movie, when we were both amateurs. And now he’s joining the fold as Professor Pyg.”
In the comic books, Pyg also goes by the name Lazlo Valentin. He wears a pig mask and is the leader of the Circus of Strange. He has a small army of “Dollotrons,” comprised of victims who wears doll-like masks.
Pyg is so terrifying that Cannon said they had to make some adjustments in the show. “When the studio asks you to tone back because it’s too scary, you know you’ve done something right!”
Another highly anticipated villain is Solomon Grundy (Drew Powell), the zombie formerly known as mobster Butch Gilzean. Fans only have to wait just a little bit longer because co-executive producer Bryan Wynbrandt said the zombie is slated to appear in the episode entitled “A Dark Knight: The Blade’s Path” on Oct. 19. “He is two episodes away,” Wynbrandt told Comic Book. “We’re really banking a lot on the Grundy [this season]. He comes in episode five.”
“Gotham” Season 4 airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. EDT on Fox.
