“Grey’s Anatomy” will return with a bang -- or should we say a smash? -- this fall when Season 12 of the hit ABC series debuts. The synopsis for the premiere episode, titled “Sledgehammer,” which is set to premiere on Sept. 24, teases just want kind of piercing drama will rip through the upcoming installment of Shonda Rhimes’ medical show.

“Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital springs into action to save the lives of two young girls whose powerful story will force some of the doctors to revisit the effects of bullying on their own pasts,” the summary paints a grim picture of what will go down in the premiere episode. ABC has also released images from episode 1 to give viewers a glimpse at the impending, medical storyline.

But bullying won’t be the only issues addressed in the Season 12 premiere. According to the synopsis, Jackson (Jesse Williams) and April (Sarah Drew) shippers will also learn the fate of Japril when “Grey’s Anatomy” returns to the small screen.

“Jackson prepares for April’s return to Seattle. Meanwhile Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) must adjust to changes at home with her new roommates,” the summary teases.

Rhimes revealed to the Hollywood Reporter in August that Meredith would be leaving her McMansion following Derek’s (Patrick Dempsey) death and move back into her mother’s home, along with her sister’s Maggie (Kelly McCreary) and Amelia (Caterina Scorsone).

“Right now it's very funny. Those three women are very different and don't have very much in common, which is fantastic," the showrunner divulged, adding that the trio living together is a “fascinating dynamic.” “It’s family," she said.

Audiences got a quick peek of Meredith’s new home life – with roomies – after an image was released of McCreary’s character sporting her pajamas and a luminous smile. I guess it’s safe to say the sisters are enjoying their quality time together – for now.

Lastly, fans got a peek at Grey Sloan’s newest interns with the releases of Season 12’s premiere photos. In the pictures, viewers can see the scrub-donning newbies partaking in Grey Sloan’s newly added anatomy class. But their slicing and dicing will come to a halt, forcing an intern (played by Giacomo Gianniotti) to come face-to-face with Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) – even making her smile! The EP did tease “exciting new romances” for both Callie (Sara Ramirez) and April. Could this be one of them?

“Grey’s Anatomy” will air its Season 12 premiere on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
