'Guardians Of The Galaxy 2' Cast Member Karen Gillan Teases What Fans Can Expect From The Marvel Sequel
While “Guardians of the Galaxy” was originally considered a strange addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), people now can’t wait for the sequel to arrive in 2017. With the core group of heroes coming back for another adventure, one of the returning villains is finally opening up about her role and what people can expect from it.
In the first film, former “Doctor Who” actress Karen Gillan got bald, blue and angry as the villain Nebula -- the highly trained assassin and daughter of the Mad Titan Thanos (Josh Brolin). When fans last saw Nebula, she had lost a fight to her sister Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and escaped the battle for the orb in an enemy ship. With sites like CinemaBlend assuming her character was preserved to be in the next movie, the actress is now opening up about what fans can expect when she makes her triumphant super-powered return. While she wasn’t able to dish too many details, she did share that her second appearance will be a bit of a family affair.
“I think that I’m really excited about it delving into the sisterly relationship between Gamora and Nebula,” she told ComicBookResource. “I think that we’re going to see a little bit more of that, and it’s going to be a bit more fleshed out.”
For those that need a refresher about the “sisters’” relationship, it is described in the first movie as more of a kidnapping. Gamora reveals that Thanos conquered both the girl’s homeworlds and then brainwashed and genetically modified them to be his personal super assassins. While both women eventually broke their brainwashing, their skills as warriors made them formidable heroes in the galaxy. While Gamora teamed up with the Guardians of the Galaxy on the side of good, Nebula just wants to escape the crushing rule of her father by killing him, if possible.
While their last meeting ended with a brutal fist fight that resulted in Nebula cutting off her hand rather than allying herself with Thanos’s favorite daughter, only time will tell what will happen when the sisters square off once again in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.” Fans will just have to wait until the film hits theaters on May 5, 2017 to find out.
