Gwyneth Paltrow On Nepotism In Hollywood: 'Have To Work Twice As Hard' [Watch]
Gwyneth Paltrow shared her thoughts on nepotism. While the actress noted that celebrity kids have to work twice as hard, she also admitted that they enter the industry "unfairly."
The 49-year-old actress, who is the daughter of actress Blythe Danner and director Bruce Paltrow, appeared on Hailey Bieber's YouTube show, titled "Who’s in my Bathroom?" on Wednesday.
The actress admitted being a child of a famous person can get you access to things that other people don’t have. "As the child of someone, you get access other people don’t have, so the playing field is not level in that way," Paltrow said.
However, the actress shared that once celebrity kids enter the industry "unfairly," they have to "work twice as hard and be twice as good because people are ready to pull you down and say ‘you don’t belong there,’ or ‘you are only there because of your dad or your mom.'"
Paltrow further explained how such a reaction from the audience "shouldn’t limit" celebrity kids from achieving their dreams. "Nobody in the world, especially anyone who doesn’t know you, shouldn’t have a negative impact on your path or the decision that you make," she added.
Bieber, who is the daughter of actor Stephen Baldwin, responded to Paltrow's views, "I need to hear this today." She also has famous uncles working as actors: Alec, Daniel and William Baldwin.
Paltrow recalled working with Bieber's father Stephen and said, "I think I know your dad and your uncles. I did a movie with your dad. It was a tiny independent movie. I think I was like 20 years old, so it was a really long time ago, but he was great."
Fans shared their views in the comments section.
"It’s really great that she addressed the whole nepotism critique that’s going on at the moment," one of the fans wrote. "Hailey is such a hard-working person and was literally born into it, it wasn’t her choice. I feel like people often forget that."
Another one added, "Hailey and gwyneth's energy is beautiful."
On the work front, Paltrow is currently filming a documentary titled "Johnny's Inferno." Bieber, on the other hand, was last seen in the "Dave" TV series, released in 2021.
