Harley Quinn Movies: See Margot Robbie’s Upcoming DCEU Films
“Suicide Squad” isn’t considered a great movie, but it did give audiences Harley Quinn. Margot Robbie’s crazy criminal was a hit with audiences, and it looks like the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) will be keeping the actress busy with new movies for quite a while.
“Suicide Squad 2”
It may not have been a hit with critics, but audiences paid plenty of money to see the first installment. It made over $745 million worldwide, and that’s enough reason for Warner Bros. to make a sequel.
The movie is reportedly being fast-tracked so that Warner Bros. can get the movie made before the cast’s contracts run out. Exactly who is coming back has not been confirmed. It’s seems unlikely that the movie would return without a fan favorite like Harley Quinn.
Not everyone will return, though. Cara Delevingne, who played the Enchantress, noted that she was unlikely to return after her character was defeated. “It was a life-changing experience and of course I’d do another one, but I don’t think it would make sense for the character,” she told USA Today last month.
“Suicide Squad 2” does not have a director yet, but 2019 release date is rumored.
Untitled Joker and Harley Quinn Movie
Robbie will definitely reunite with Jared Leto for the most recently announced Harley Quinn movie. According to the Hollywood Reporter, directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (“This is Us,” “Crazy Stupid Love”) will write and helm the movie about Gotham’s most dangerous couple.
It isn’t clear exactly what arc the story will follow, but the movie will be set after the “Suicide Squad” sequel. An insider described the movie to THR as “an insane and twisted love story. ‘When Harry Met Sally’ on benzedrine.”
Viewers saw flashbacks to the beginning of the Joker (Jared Leto) and Harley’s romance in “Suicide Squad.” Harley was the Joker’s psychologist while he was locked up, but she fell in love with him. Once he pushed her into a toxic vat, she completed her transition to becoming the maniacal criminal audiences love. Though their scenes were just a small part of the movie, it was enough to whet fans’ appetites for a full Joker and Harley movie.
“Gotham City Sirens”
Harley’s girl power team-up with Catwoman and Poison Ivy was rumored to be dropped after the Joker and Harley’s spinoff movie was announced. However, it seems the female-fronted flick is just delayed.
“Harley, Catwoman and Poison Ivy are super important to us — And a super cool team, too!” an anonymous source at Warner Bros. told Forbes.
The movie is expected to be loosely based on the “Gotham City Sirens” comic that was launched in 2009. Harley and Poison Ivy are trying to figure out Batman’s true identity, so they try to give Catwoman a truth serum. That doesn’t get them their information, but Catwoman eventually joins the evil ladies on their mission.
“Suicide Squad” director David Ayer will helm the movie.
While the villainous films will come eventually, the DCEU is currently focusing on heroes for their next couple movies. On Nov. 17, fans will see Wonder Woman return in “Justice League,” where she’ll team up with Batman (Ben Affleck), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and the Flash (Ezra Miller). Aquaman will have a solo outing on Dec. 21, 2018 as well. See all the upcoming DCEU movies HERE.
