In a shocking case of animal cruelty, a "harmless and peaceful" dog was thrashed, bound, and stuffed in a polythene bag by members of a gated community, causing the canine to suffocate to death.
The complaint in this regard was filed by Akshima Jhajhria, a resident of the same gated community in the Indian city of Gurugram, reported Times Now.
In her complaint, Jhajhria blamed the resident welfare association (RWA) of the community and service provider staff for the heinous act that occurred on May 20.
"The old, calm, docile, and peaceful dog was put in a polythene bag and suffocated to death and dumped. The said dog was vaccinated, sterilized, and peaceful. He was not a threat or nuisance to anyone in society," the complaint read.
She alleged that community dogs living in the society were beaten, tied, killed, and stuffed in polythene bags earlier too.
"Despite knowing all the laws, these kinds of incidents have been happening in the society on regular basis for a long time where dogs are beaten," she added in her complaint.
Images of security guards with a polythene bag that allegedly carried the dead dog are also going viral on social media. After the post went viral, many Twitter users shared it, urging police to take action against the security guards for their cruel deeds.
The RWA members have acknowledged the incident but refused to have taken part in it, blaming the security staff for the mishap.
"We were not apprised of this incident, it has been done in ignorance by some of the guards following a complaint by a resident that a dog was troubling them. In the absence of authority, since it was nighttime, they took some action randomly, which we also condemn," the association told The Indian Express.
Meanwhile, the police said they have filed a case in this regard, and a few members of the RWA and security staff have been charged with mischief by killing or maiming an animal and criminal conspiracy. No arrests have been made yet.
A similar case of animal cruelty was reported in Australia last week after a man set a six-month-old puppy on fire. The severely injured animal had to be euthanized later. The canine was found in a cage by an emergency service personnel who rushed to the scene following reports of a fire in the unit.
