With Jose Mourinho now out of the picture, Tottenham’s talisman Harry Kane will have to try and maintain his exceptional form with a new manager.
Former Tottenham midfielder Ryan Mason has been officially appointed to spearhead the Spurs following the sacking of Mourinho. However, rumors have linked Rangers manager and Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard to a switch to Tottenham.
Sharing his thoughts on the subject, soccer pundit and The Times’ Tony Cascarino said Gerrard, at the moment, is the “one manager” who presents a strong case in filling the void left by the award-winning coach.
“One manager who looks capable of filling that role [of Mourinho] is Steven Gerrard,” Cascarino wrote in a recent column. “People say he will be the next Liverpool manager but maybe not, or, if so, perhaps he will do another job before then.”
“What he has done at Rangers is extraordinary: the way he handles himself in interviews and the huge improvement of the team on the pitch,” he added.
It can be recalled that with Mourinho, Tottenham had a hot start in the current campaign, with Kane even admitting that he has been playing the best season of his career.
For Cascarino, the idea of having Gerrard as the new Tottenham manager would certainly keep the England captain going.
“Would [Gerrard] excite the likes of Harry Kane? I would say he would,” the pundit predicted.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Kane himself finally shared his thoughts on the arrival of Mason as Mourinho’s immediate replacement.
According to the English striker, it is just normal for Mason to be quite shocked, but thus far, the newly-appointed Spurs boss has been doing great.
“I had a great relationship with Jose [Mourinho], I wish him all the best for whatever his next job is, but he knows as we know football can be cut-throat and we just have to look forward,” Kane explained.
“Ryan’s been great,” he added. “It’s obviously been strange for him, a bit of a rollercoaster coming in late notice and taking on the job. I thought he’s done incredibly well; how he’s handled the whole situation, how he’s handled the boys and obviously getting his first win against Southampton was a massive moment.”
More importantly, Kane bared that he and Mason have also been getting along well outside the pitch.
“Me and Ryan are good mates, we’ve known each other a long time, on and off the field we are really close,” the striker revealed.
