Heartbroken Maria Shriver gains strength from friends and children, son changes last name
After former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger admitted to fathering a child with a former staffer, Maria Shriver is finding strenth from friends and children even as their son Patrick Schwarzenegger decided to change his last name to Shriver.
On Tuesday night, Maria Shriver appeared in Chicago to tape one of the star-studded final episodes of Oprah Winfrey Show, which is her first public appearance after Arnold Schwarzenegger admitted to fathering a child with a former staffer.
Shriver said on the stage, “You have given me love, support, wisdom and, most of all, the truth,” “And I know I’m not alone in receiving those gifts from you.” At that time, Oprah held her hand and the crowd applauded thunderously.
On Monday, Shriver was spotted dining with Oprah, partner Stedman Graham and best friend Gayle King at Chicago's RL Restaurant.
As previously reported, the identity of the mother of Schwarzenegger's love child is Mildred Patricia Baena, who worked at the Schwarzenegger-Shriver home as a housekeeper for more than 20 years.
On Tuesday morning, following Schwarzenegger’s admission, Shriver broke her silence to release a statement: This is a painful and heartbreaking time. As a mother, my concern is for the children. I ask for compassion, respect and privacy as my children and I try to rebuild our lives and heal. I will have no further comment.
The same day, Patrick, the couple's 17-year-old son, changed his last name from Schwarzenegger to Shriver on his Twitter page, and posted the following message: I love my family till death do us part…Some days you feel like s--t…some days you just want to quit and just be normal for a bit.
His older sister Katherine, 21, tweeted out a more parent-neutral message: This is definitely not easy but I appreciate your love and support as I begin to heal and move forward in life. I will always love my family!
