‘House Of Cards’ Season 3 Spoilers: 6 Things We Learned From New Promo Video
A new Season 3 promo video for “House of Cards” was released Sunday during the 2015 Golden Globes. The premiere of the exciting trailer was made available following Kevin Spacey’s emotional acceptance speech at the 72nd annual award ceremony. Spacey took home the title of Best Actor in a Drama series for his portrayal of Frank Underwood, beating out Clive Owen, Liev Schreiber, James Spader and Dominic West for the coveted award.
"This is the eighth time I've been nominated. I cannot f---king believe I won," the 55-year-old actor said, shocking viewers and attendees alike at the star-studded ceremony (especially “Orange is the New Black” star Uzo Aduba).
Although Spacey’s f-bomb was one of the most memorable moments of the night (following Benedict Cumberbatch’s photobomb), we have to admit that the release of the Season 3 trailer trumps the NBC live-TV blunder by far. Here are 6 things we learned about the thrilling new season of “House of Cards” from the new trailer:
1. Frank Acknowledges Season 3 Dangers
During the 45-second video the President of the United States addresses viewers in his typical one-on-one fashion, recognizing the risks that come with his new position.
"Do you want to know what takes real courage?" Frank says in the opening of the clip. "Holding it all together when the stakes are this high." Is Frank predicting a catastrophe?
2. Frank Makes An Enemy
One of those stakes Frank previously mentioned is the making of new enemies. In the video, Frank attempts to shake the hand of a mysterious character -- who refuses to reciprocate.
3. Claire (Robin Wright) Gets Kissed
A failed handshake isn't the mysterious man's only offense. His menacing storyline thickens when he’s seen kissing Claire in public during an event. The mysterious character grabs the FLOTUS by her face and lays one on her as Frank witnesses the surprising smooch.
4. The Ice Queen Finally Breaks
After two seasons of keeping a stone-cold façade, Claire finally witnessed something so disturbing that she had to be escorted away from the gruesome scene. We can’t wait to see what distressed the ever-so-composed Claire!
5. Tensions Between The Underwood’s
It’s clear that there will be some sort of rift between Frank and Claire during Season 3. What tipped us off? Well besides the fact that Claire locks lips with a mystery man, there are telling moments from the trailer that we analyzed to the core. For example, the duo walks off in opposite directions, hinting a divide. The two are also spotted sitting far away from each other in the car as they stare out their respective windows. Body posture is everything.
6. A Possible Season 3 Death
Every season Beau Willimon, creator of the Netflix original drama, shocks fans with a character death, which is why we’re on the edges of our seats waiting to see who the showrunner will kill off in the new installment. Claire teased the homicide when she states to Frank that the two of them are murderers.
“We’re survivors,” he rebutted. Will the two be channeling their inner Bonnie and Clyde come Season 3?
“House of Cards” Season 3 will be available to stream on Netflix Friday, Feb. 27.
