‘House Of Cards’ Star Elizabeth Marvel Talks Female Empowerment In Hollywood
Elizabeth Marvel is one of the lucky actresses who is able to defy the test of time in Hollywood and nab one good role after another. She’s known for her roles as Heather Dunbar on “House of Cards,” President Elizabeth Keane on “Homeland” and Constance Heck on “Fargo.” All of her roles have one thing in common: they are all strong women blazing a trail wherever they go.
When Salon asked Marvel about her acting experience in Hollywood and how women like her are setting the standard for good female roles, she said that it’s due to a changing landscape and a good skill set.

“We are in this amazing age of television where there’s an incredible amount and an incredible quality of television, of long-form narrative,” Marvel said. “And long-form narrative demands good actors to sustain these very complicated stories.”
For Season 5 of “House of Cards,” there will be two new players. Oscar nominee Patricia Clarkson and Campbell Scott have booked “major roles” next season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. While details of their roles are still being kept a secret for now, it has already been confirmed that they will both be featured heavily in the new season.
The casting is the first addition made by new showrunners Frank Pugliese and Melissa James Gibson, who joined the series as senior writers in Season 3. They have taken over the reins from show creator Beau Willimon, who exited the show just this January.
Spacey will be reprising his role as President Frank Underwood, Robin Wright as First Lady Claire Underwood, Michael Kelly as Doug Stamper, Paul Sparks as Thomas Yates, and Neve Campbell as political consultant LeAnn Harvey. Mahershala Ali’s Remy Danton, on the other hand, will no longer be a part of the show.
“House of Cards” Season 5 will premiere on Netflix on May 30.
