In an apparent case of murder-suicide, four people have been found dead with gunshot wounds at a home in east Harris County, Houston.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the incident, a domestic violence shooting, involved a man firing at the police before turning the gun on himself, reported ABC News.
On Wednesday, the officers received a call from a woman claiming that she had been shot. Upon reaching the home on Lourdes Drive around 3:15 a.m., the officers were met with gunfire from a man who had barricaded himself inside the home. After that, a SWAT team from the Sheriff's office had to be called to the spot.
Deputies at the scene were heard saying on a megaphone, "Louis, come out of the house. We're here to help you, not hurt you."
Although the team managed to gain entry to the home, they heard a "final gunshot." The deputies eventually found two dead women and two dead men, including the suspected shooter.
According to Gonzales, the 49-year-old man was the boyfriend of one of the women. "The other woman and man were her adult children. The woman who was ultimately shot is likely the person who called police," he said. However, the officers are yet to identify the victims.
The boyfriend appears to have been the aggressor, but it remains unclear how the shootings played out, the police said. There have been reports indicating that the man had younger children but they were not at the residence during the incident.
"Multiple guns were found in the home and the 49-year-old told police he was injured before he shot himself. We believe everyone, but that man, had been shot before officers arrived. The officers did not fire any shots and that no officers were wounded. Sheriff's deputies have not been called to the house before," Gonzales added.
Texas witnessed another murder-suicide just a few months ago when a man fatally shot his girlfriend before killing himself at south Fort Worth. The shooter, 41-year-old Cory Lashaun James, got into an argument with his girlfriend the morning of the incident. When the daughter attempted to calm the situation, James shot the two women and himself. The daughter, however, survived.
