How ‘Amazing Race’ Season 31 Stars Leo Temory And Jamal Zadran Can Win
They’ve had an interesting season thus far on “The Amazing Race” and have been the center of some of Season 31’s biggest dramas. Still, there’s no reason to believe that Leo Temory and Jamal Zadran, a.k.a #TheAfghanimals, can’t potentially win $1 million by crossing the finish line first.
The cousins started the season off strong, and while they’ve since faltered, they’re a formidable pair on the CBS reality competition series. With their strengths a true asset going into the final leg, they could surprise everyone by being the first ones across the finish line. However, some things do still potentially stand in their way when it comes to what they can and cannot accomplish.
Pros
They Have A Good Record
After getting a first-place finish on the first two legs of the race, the Afghanimals have faltered a bit when it comes to their standings, staying generally near the middle or bottom of the pack. Still, while they may not have the best record of the teams going into the final, two first places finishes are still something that makes them a team to watch.
They Aren’t Afraid To Play Dirty Or Be Sneaky
Of all of the teams still on the race, the Afghanimals are the ones who are least afraid to use a dirty tactic or trick if it gets them ahead of everyone else—and they’ve utilized them throughout Season 31. From pretending they were lost to keep other teams from following them, to distracting other teams from beating them and helping to orchestrate a U-Turn without having to take credit, there’s really no limit to what they might do if it helped them keep a lead. While teams are more in tune to their tricks now, if they play it smart enough in the final legs, they could convincingly work some magic to achieve their goal.
They Have The Most ‘Race’ Experience
Though they’ve never made it to a final leg before, of every team still competing, they do have the most “Race” experience overall. While Colin and Christie and Tyler and Korey have all run the race before and made it to the final, they each competed in one season before. Meanwhile, Nicole and Victor are still newbies competing for the first time ever. While history has seen them finish in fourth place during their previous seasons, Leo and Jamal have competed together for a total of 32 legs when all of their seasons are added up—while Colin and Christie have only completed 23 and Tyler and Korey have only run 22. Having 9-10 legs more experience could be a huge advantage even without their previously making it to a final.
Cons
They May Not Have Many Friends Left
While they don’t necessarily have outright enemies in the ‘Race,” their antics throughout the season have likely placed a target on their backs. If the teams have a way to try and knock them down a peg, they may not hesitate to take it since it could serve not only as a way to beat them, but also help get some vengeance against them for the things they’ve done.
Their Track Record Lately Hasn’t Been Good
Since their first-place finishes in legs one and two, things have been going from “first to worst” and “worst to first” for the cousins ever since. They haven’t managed to really come back since, only getting into the top three one other time. That doesn’t bode well for them going into the finals, especially since some of the other teams have performed significantly better.
They Overlook A Lot Of Details And Make Mistakes
Part of Leo and Jamal’s problem with their performance has been lacking when it comes to whether or not they pay attention to detail. They’ve messed up on a challenge in almost every leg, and each one always insists the other is doing something wrong—but no one ever admits they’re making a mistake either. If they don’t stop this behavior, especially with a memory challenge coming in the final, then they will find themselves quickly losing out on the $1 million.
Are Leo and Jamal set to be millionaires? Find out on the Season 31 finale of “The Amazing Race,” airing Wednesday, June 26 at 8 p.m. EDT on CBS.
