How Does The Last ‘Game Of Thrones’ Book End? Everything You Need To Know About ‘A Dance With Dragons’
“Game of Thrones” is wildly popular among various TV watching demographics. Before HBO brought viewers to the Seven Kingdoms, it was a world only accessible to those who read author George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” novels.
The series features five books, with a sixth on the way. The most recently completed book is titled, “A Dance With Dragons.” Many believed the title was an indication that Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and her army would invade Westeros in the book, but Martin later assured them that wasn’t the case.
“A Dance With Dragons” picks up precisely where the one prior, titled “A Storm of Swords,” left off. The War of the Five Kings is just about over and Stannis Baratheon (NAME) has reached The Wall. He’s promised to be an ally of the North as they face off with the West, which is under Iron Born occupation. Jon Snow (Kit Harington) has just been elected Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch and is facing opposition there and outside the Wall.
Elsewhere Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) has been captured and taken to an undisclosed location. Daenerys has taken over Slaver’s Bay and is ready to make changes, despite the unwillingness of her new subjects. News of her latest conquest is spreading throughout the Seven Kingdoms and many are ready to make moves in the hopes of taking her out.
The plot of the book aligns with Season 5 of “Game of Thrones.” In fact, Stannis, Jon and Daenerys’ storylines are almost exactly the same in that season as they are in “A Dance With Dragons.” The show also catches up with Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), who has travelled to Braavos to find the Many Faced God and Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon), who captured Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen) and tortured him.
The next book, “Winds of Winter,” will likely cover Season 6 — and perhaps some of Season 7 — of “Game of Thrones.” The book has yet to receive a release date. There have been several delays for Martin during the book's writing.
In the meantime, “Game of Thrones” fans can look forward to the premiere of Season 7. The show will begin airing new episodes again on July 16.
