‘How To Get Away With Murder’ Season 2 Spoilers: Showrunner Pete Nowalk Explains Asher And Michaela’s Hookup
On Thursday’s Season 2, episode 14 of “How To Get Away With Murder,” fans finally learned the truth about Wes’ (Alfred Enoch) past, but they also witnessed a surprise hookup between Michaela (Aja Noami King) and Asher (Matt McGorry). Showrunner Pete Nowalk dished on Asher and Michaela’s bathroom rendezvous, revealing that it was something he planned all season.
“Michaela has been wound so tight through our series,” Nowalk explained in an interview with TV Line. “Aja is not like that at all. She’s extremely fun and the life of the party, and we were looking for a chance to show that. It felt like this moment was surprising but also very real. There’re twenty-somethings who are really drunk and under a lot of pressure.”
Nowalk also said there’s a good chance Oliver (Conrad Ricamora) already knew something was brewing between Asher and Michaela. As fans will recall, Connor’s (Jack Falahee) boyfriend teased Michaela about Asher possibly having good skills in the bedroom based off his dance moves in that embarrassing rap video.
“Maybe Oliver just has a sixth sense about who should be together,” he said. “It’s kind of annoying to me when you watch something, and it’s never been hinted at beforehand … Everyone was thinking it was a threesome with Asher, Connor and Oliver — and I was like, ‘It was right before your eyes this whole time.’”
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about the hookup, Nowalk teased that this week’s episode will show both of them feeling guilty about it — especially since Michaela’s boyfriend Caleb (Kendrick Sampson) is missing — but that doesn’t mean they will stop seeing each other.
“If I were their therapist, I’d say forget it ever happened,” he told the outlet. “The question for next week is: Do they want to? Because from what I saw, they both seemed to be enjoying themselves.”
As previously reported, a sneak peek for episode 15 shows that neither Michaela nor Asher wants to pump the breaks on their new fling.
“How To Get Away With Murder” airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. EDT on ABC.
